«Here is a threshing floor to dance!»
Closing Ceremony, Epidaurus festival, Music and Dances of Morias (Peloponnese)
AUGUST, 17th, 2017
Here's a threshing floor to dance! This is the title of a special presentation on the musical dance tradition of Morias, performed at the closing ceremony for the Athens and Epidaurus Festival on Saturday, August 19th. It is a big celebration at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, featuring dance groups from all the areas of the Peloponnese.
Starting from the seven-minute rhythm of the Kalamata syrtos dance, ( at first, found in Aristophanes) and the ancient tsakonic ritual dance, the Epidaurus Festival ends its cycle of this year's performances, with an honorary and celebratory special programme consisting particularly of the rich musical dance tradition of Peloponnese, in order to preserve the identity and the history of this area.
The orchestra of the ancient theater is turned into a big threshing floor of Time, in order to welcome the contemporary participants, singers, musicians and dancers from all over the Peloponnese, in an open invitation to participate in the ritual of the Greek traditional feast.
Entrance for children under 6, is also permitted.
