The host Lambros Liavas at the TV Show “Salt of the Earth» on the ET1 TV Channel, welcomes the music band «TAKIM». They guide us to the very special tradition of the Greek immigrants of America, on Sunday, 4th February 2018, at 13:00.
It is estimated that since 1896 (when the first Greek song was recorded) until the 1960s, more than 15000 songs of all kinds, were recorded in the USA! In these recordings, the Asia Minor syrtos dance and the charsilamas dance meet the music theater, the revue and the operetta. The rhythm of zeibekikos dance mixes with the jazz rythme. Balkan dances, Jewish dances and oriental melodies coexist with swing and fox-trot, while the oud and the qanum take their place next to the American jazz - band, as the folk clarinet bridges Smyrna with New Orleans and the hit-jazz with ... jazz!
These songs announce fusion and ethnic-jazz, nearly half a century before modern music cocktails of globalization.
The music group «Takim» have chosen to present some of the characteristic musical themes from this colorful mosaic, from the traditional «Café Aman» of the Greek immigrants in the USA. It’s about stories that have become songs, music that accompanied joys and sorrows, loves and separations, hopes and despair, dreams and frustration, national pride and social protest. Between the West and the East, from jazz to ... hit-jazz!
The music group «TAKIM» is composed of six leading virtuosos: Thomas Constantinou (oud), Alexandros Arkadopoulos (clarinet), George Marinakis (violin), Panos Dimitrakopoulos (qanum), Costas Meretakis (percussion) and Giannis Plagiannakos (kontrabass) . With them, Giannis Niarchos and Katerina Tzivioglou (song).
Special guests of «TAKIM» in this show are: the “master «of the folk clarinet Petros-Loucas Halkias, who recalls the New York City clubs where he had played for twenty years, and the exquisite virtuoso of the bouzouki, Nikos Tatsopoulos, son of Giannis Tatsopoulos, who was very renowned at the American clubs, famous for his records to the Greeks immigrants.
